This is our current recommended starter for replacing all former versions of starters used in Peninsular Marine engines from 160HP NA engines to 340 HP Turbo engines. Starter design updated in 2021 with a revision to battery terminal location which is now on top where it's easiest to install and wire, the units also come with a protective paint coating instead of bare.

This Rear-Mount CCW starter replaces 1st generation direct drive starter with external starting solenoid, and 2nd generation direct drive starter that has an integrated solenoid. See pictures to identify.

Some wiring and equipment changes are necessary for units equipped with the 1st generation starter. It is required to select the Soft Start relay system for replacing a 1st generation starter to replace former external solenoid system with the later and supported soft start relay system. We are unable to provide wiring support for 1st generation starter replacements that are not utilizing the Soft Start relay system.

This starter is a direct bolt-on replacement that is 3-bolts for mounting, and does not require any bell housing grinding or shims (some older direct drive starters require shim).

This starter comes pre-clocked in a form that fits the mass majority of installations, some installations may require re-clocking the mounting flange to rotate the starter body, this is possible with this design.

This unit also replaces former 2-bolt gear reduction starters formerly sold by Peninsular.
