Service Kit to replace former GM 6.5 turbo diesel vacuum wastegate control harnesses used on 1994-2000 C and K Series Chevrolet and GMC Trucks using the factory turbo.
This specific kit offers a more robust solution to replace vacuum hardware of the the formed plastic harness and rubber boots. At this stage the plastic tubing and plastic reducers have become extremely brittle and cracks, all the rubber connections from the vacuum pump and onto the actual wastegate solenoid are also deteriorated.
This specific solution came about as a personal upgrade for our family vehicles to solve turbocharger related issues. The factory plastic harness is misleading in how you can repair them, many (us included) have spliced a broken tube together with some small ID rubber hose, snugly. This gave false confidence in fixing the break, because it actually just leaked, enough to create intermittent smokey circumstances with the turbo not working properly, leading to thinking the turbo was having a problem. Turns out all along, it was the failing vacuum harness. We've even seen customer's trucks that the lines "looked" like they would hold vacuum and work even with some vacuum pressure at the turbo, but when driving a whole other story unfolded. They all just needed a reliable vacuum transport system to be installed.
The Unique Diesel Turbo Vacuum control harness kit provides everything needed to completely replace ALL of the vacuum tubing from the vacuum pump to the control solenoid and then to the turbo. A lot of testing and revisions have gone into making this assembly, and it just flat out works well.
We even stock and keep the replacement vacuum pumps, waste gate solenoids in case this harness is just part of the problem.
Why Keep the Vacuum Control System versus a mechanical spring gate setup?
GM knew what they were doing using this setup, when used on 1994-Up electronically controlled 6.5 Turbo Diesel engines it provides better efficiency, adjust ability, and operating stability than something mechanically adjusted with a spring and a lock nut.
The computer controlled vacuum actuated wastegate allows adjustments to turbo pressures based on heavily loaded, atmospheric barometric pressure changes, and light load fuel economy benefits. The same cannot be said for a Spring Master or Stick manual controls which always lead to engine fault code DTCs being set in differing conditions.
Yes, we can even accommodate a vacuum pump "un-delete" process to restore the truck to original operating quality.
What specifically does this fit, are there limitations?
This is currently designed to fit US Model Heavy Duty emissions 6.5 Turbo Diesel C and K series truck models with VIN 8th engine code of "F"
- 1994-2000 6.5TD C/K 2500 Series Truck (8-lug wheels)
- 1994-2000 6.5TD C/K 3500 Series Truck
- 1994-2002 6.5TD C3500 H.D Series Truck (10-lug wheels)
- 1994-2000 6.5TD C/K 2500 Series Suburban *
*kit does not service Right Hand Drive models.
Please note: the "Turbo Power" fiberglass engine cover interferes with this kit on 94-95 models, trimming cover may be required or remove cover. Kit cleanly works with the 96-Up "Turbo Power" covers.
This kit will eventually support Light Duty emissions 6.5 Turbo Diesel C and K series truck models with VIN 8th engine code of "S" but as of this product's launch it does not fully support this, a supplemental parts kit will have to be made to address supplying vacuum to the EGR control solenoids found on the LD emissions truck models.
Current kit is only applicable by omitting the EGR control function...
